Bugle
System Support: iOS
Description: Made for runners, hikers, and others who lead active lives and don't necessary have their phones on them for more regular check-ins. You set up an activity and what time you expect to be done, and if you do not check-in with the app at this time it sends your contacts an emergency text and email with a description of your set activity and that you may be unsafe. If you check in late, after the emergency message has been sent, it automatically notifies them that you are safe.

SafeTrek
System Support: iOS and Android
Description: Good for situations when you feel actively threatened, you place your finger on the in-app "Safe" button. When you release your finger, your phone prompts you to enter a 4-digit code. If you do NOT enter this code, the app automatically notifies the police. If you enter it, the notification is cancelled. Optimal for active pursuit scenarios wherein more obviously contacting the police via phonecall may provoke confrontation, orif you are unsure if there is a real threat.
